Camilla Colombo, Associate professor of Orbital Mechanics

Space benefits humanity through the services it provides to Earth and promotes its development thanks to discoveries and new technologies related to scientific and exploration missions of our solar system. A threat to the sustainable development of space activities is orbital debris, consisting of non-operational satellites and launchers left in orbit at the end of the mission, and the 900,000 fragments resulting from explosions and collisions in orbit. The research performed at Politecnico di Milano within the COMPASS project funded by the European Research Council and in collaboration with the European Space Agency to mitigate the problem of space debris will be presented.
