LECTURA DANTIS

  • The Philippine-Italian Association 2/F Zeta II Bulding, 191 Salcedo Street, Legaspi Village Makati City 1229 Metro Manila Philippines (map)

In commemoration of Dante Alighieri’s 700th anniversary, The University of Asia and the Pacific invites all to a Lecturae Dantis, a reading of all 100 cantos of the Divine Comedy, with commentary. We extend this invite, in particular, to those who have never read the Divine Comedy, who know the poem only partially, or to Dantisti who would like to know how Italy’s supreme poet is read and appreciated in a context far removed from Europe.

The readings shall be held every Saturday beginning with Inferno 1 on September 18 from 10 AM to 12 noon (Philippine Standard Time). Only one canto will be read and discussed per Saturday. Attendance in the readings is free of charge and entirely online via Zoom. The readings and commentary shall be conducted in English.

Most readings and accompanying commentary will be handled by a teacher from the University of Asia and the Pacific where the Divine Comedy is part of the core curriculum. However, we have also invited readers from other institutions in the Philippines and abroad.

Updates regarding the translation to be used, Zoom details, and other matters will be sent via email. The Zoom sessions shall be recorded. To register, please go here.
